What do you teach at Oaksterdam University?

I lecture about the scientific record that supports relative safety and therapeutic efficacy of cannabis and its components. A keyword search using the term ‘marijuana’ on the PubMed website, the repository for all peer-reviewed research, yields some 22,000 published studies in the scientific literature specific to cannabis and its effects. And while I cannot touch upon all of these studies in a 90-minute lecture, I try my best to educate students to the reality that we know more about the science surrounding  this plant and its interactions with our bodies than we know about many of the conventional pharmaceuticals it could arguably replace.

What do you teach at Oaksterdam University?
Federal v. State (Medical) Marijuana Law – which is an overview of medical marijuana laws at the Federal and State levels. I also teach the Know Your Rights Workshop – which is centered around the 4th, 5th, and 6th Amendments of the U.S. Constitution; it involves skits wherein different police encounters are acted out, to provide students with the knowledge necessary to have a successful police encounter. What do you teach at Oaksterdam University?
I teach History and Political Science. Basically I run through 10,000 years of human interaction with cannabis to show how the last 100 years of prohibition are an abberation and a racist attack on the founding principles of the US. Next we look at how the growing momentum of reforms have solidified the social, political and financial ground of today into a foundation for the future. History gives a context for the other information OU provides its students. Continue reading
