The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives just doubled down on its efforts to keep guns away from cannabis patients and legal adult-use consumers in November with this new explicit clarification. The ATF is releasing a revised version of Form 4473 that adds a new warning statement reminding applicants that marijuana is still considered federally illegal despite state laws allowing medical cannabis or adult use. This is not a new rule, rather a clarification. Continue reading

The 5th annual Marijuana Business Conference & Expo made the vast halls of the glitzy Rio Las Vegas Hotel and Casino seem small. The lack of mannerly space between people waiting in the registration line provided an accurate measure of the mania to know more about and participate in the booming legal cannabis industry.
2016 can be the year the tide is turned in the United States against the irrational, wasteful, and frankly harmful prohibition on cannabis. Five states, all of which currently have medical use laws, are voting on adult use (aka “recreational” cannabis) – California, Nevada, Arizona, Massachusetts, and Maine. Four other states – Arkansas, Montana, North Dakota, and Florida – are voting on medical use.
