Intellectual Property and the Cannabis Industry

How you got involved in the industry?
I originally became involved with the cannabis industry back in college. In 2001 I moved to Eugene, OR and one of my roommates had a medical card so I started becoming more interested in cannabis as medicine. My law firm is named Law Office of Luke S Zimmerman APC. I focus my practice on how intellectual property issues in the cannabis industry.

Expert tip for our readers?
If you are building a cannabis brand make sure the trademark isn’t already being used.

Favorite part about Oaksterdam?
I really enjoy the students and their enthusiasm to learn. I really have enjoyed teaching to rooms full of entrepreneurs.

Anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Consider this quote by Mark Twain “During the gold rush it was a good time to be in the pick and shovel business.”  Products and services that exist ancillary to the cannabis plant have a lot of room for innovation and creativity in the coming years.
