Oaksterdam Celebrates 20 Years of Cannabis Community and Legalization with the #EastBay420: Historic Oaksterdam District 4/20 CannaCrawl, Art Exhibitions and After-Party

Oakland, CA – On April 20th, Oaksterdam University and local Bay Area businesses are partnering together in a big way to celebrate the region’s 20 years of robust cannabis history and heritage. Join us for a fun-filled “community crawl” and art exhibition with opportunities to explore the local cannabis culture, meet community leaders, and support the local businesses that comprise the world-famous Oaksterdam District. The day’s festivities will culminate with the official #EastBay420 After-Party at Eli’s Mile High Club.

The Historic Oaksterdam District CannaCrawl kicks off the day’s events at 10 am. Grab a friend and stop by Oaksterdam University (1734 Telegraph Ave) to grab a map and start your crawl. Oaksterdam will be hosting an Open House event, complete with tours of their campus, an invaluable panel of cannabis experts and faculty on-hand to answer questions, and guests will even have the chance to take a photo among the live cannabis plants in their student garden. Participants in the crawl will unlock special deals at partner businesses and dispensaries and earn several chances to win awesome prizes in the Oaksterdam CannaCrawl Raffle. Stop by Oaksterdam from 10 am to 6 pm on 4/20 for your official CannaCrawl Map listing all the participating local businesses and their deals for the day.

Right next door at EVB Gallery (1740 Telegraph Ave), join the Cannabis Community Foundation for the 1 pm gallery opening of a three-month cannabis-centric exhibit titled, Stories from the Underground: Reflections from the Shadows. This interactive exposition honors individuals who have altered the arc of cannabis history. The photographs on display will include powerful and iconic images collected from the cannabis community and will highlight the activists, advocates, and cannabis prisoners who have built the foundations of our community. The works on display will honor legendary cannabis icons, advocates and pioneers, including: Dennis Peron, Brownie Mary, Lynette Shaw, Richard Lee, Ophelia Chong, Sue Taylor, Swami, and the Hood Incubator Group. This exhibit runs through July 31st. A suggested $10 donation will be accepted at the door, however no one will be turned away for lack of fun

“The cannabis industry would be nothing without the community of activists that have paved the way. We aim to honor those local heroes, highlight those that are taking us into the future, and remember those we’ve lost due to cannabis prohibition,” said exhibit curator Sarah Ceti.

At 7 pm, wrap up your 4/20 in style at Eli’s Mile High Club (3629 Martin Luther King Jr Way) for an unforgettable after-party celebrating 20 years of cannabis culture in a friendly venue with cash bar and live music. Join the day’s hosts and the entire #EastBay420 community as we gather to commemorate another great 4/20 in the Bay Area! (This event has a cover charge.)

Local businesses can still participate in the #EastBay420 events and sign up to be an official stop on the Oaksterdam CannaCrawl by contacting or [Oaksterdam University.]
