Oaksterdam University is proud to receive a commendation from the City of Oakland celebrating the screening of “American Pot Story: Oaksterdam” at the Oakland International Film Festival on Sept. 24, 2022.
Signed by our long-term ally and advocate Rebecca Kaplan, Oakland vice mayor and councilmember at-large, who has stood by Oaksterdam’s side through raids and political firestorms, the commendation recognizes OU’s past in the cannabis legalization movement as well as our ability “to help guide policy and frame the market of tomorrow.”
It also recognizes that Oaksterdam offers technical assistance in partnership with the City of Oakland’s Department of Race and Equity, designed to build a thriving cannabis business in Oakland with courses like Business, Supply Chain, Financial Literacy, and Advanced Security.
“I, Rebecca Kaplan, Oakland Vice Mayor and Councilmember At-Large, am honored to uplift and celebrate Oaksterdam University … honoring the spirit of civil disobedience and a deep commitment to equity, social justice, and civil rights, highlighting the movement that started in Oakland and would impact the whole world,” it reads.
Thank you Rebecca, Oakland City Council and the entire city that has supported Oaksterdam through thick and thin!
