Dale Sky Jones bestows the Legacy Award to Big Steve Parish at the Fox Theater on Sept. 24, 2022.

Dale Sky Jones appeared with Big Steve Parish during the Big Steve Hour on September 29, 2022 on SiriusXM’s Grateful Dead Channel. Steve Parish has been a primary member of the Grateful Dead family for 50 years. He first joined the band as a roadie in 1969 and served as manager of the Jerry Garcia Band.

Steve received the “Luminary Award for Legacy in Music” from Oaksterdam during OU’s Event of the Decade on Sept. 24, 2022 at Fox Theater in Oakland, Calif. Dale presented Steve with a crystal award on stage before the screening of American Pot Stoy: Oaksterdam.

“You gave me such a beautiful award the other night, and I cherish that, and I honor it,” Steve told Dale during the show.

Dale responded, “You deserve the award for bringing the legacy of music to the rest of us because there is no doubt in my mind that without you helping guide the band’s members, so much of that music would not have been heard and seen. I know what it takes the logistics, the care. You are the caretaker and most likely the least recognized.”

Dale went on to say that Big Steve was probably the one who let her husband, Jeff Jones, set up Cannabis Action Network tables at Grateful Dead shows.

“They also talked about the cannabis legalization movement and the importance of getting out to vote, as well as shared stories of Oaksterdam and the Grateful Dead.
