NJEDA Oaksterdam Cannabis Education and Training Program
Oaksterdam University is implementing the Cannabis Technical Assistance Program for recipients of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s (NJEDA) Seed Equity Grant. This hybrid technical assistance program provides entrepreneurship education and curriculum related to cannabis business management, financial planning and funding, risk mitigation, compliance, local municipal government relations, labor and employment agreements, real estate acquisition, and zoning.
Oaksterdam supports the educational curriculum through wraparound student services and direct one-on-one coaching by national and local experts. Other cannabis social equity programs have cited Oaksterdam’s one-on-one coaching program as the most valuable offering in their technical assistance because it helps them directly apply educational concepts to their business plans.
Professional coaches meet one-on-one to help students navigate a wealth of resources available in Oaksterdam’s learning management system (LMS), including a digital textbook enhanced with videos, links, resources, and templates. Oaksterdam’s LMS is accessible and adaptable on any internet-connected device.
This NJEDA Cannabis Technical Assistance Program powered by Oaksterdam will help ensure these small business owners receive targeted cannabis-specific support, build capacity for their business, and address associated operational barriers. Critically, this program will also assist entrepreneurs with converting their New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC) conditional license to a CRC annual license and help them navigate constantly changing permit, licensing, and regulatory frameworks.
The NJEDA Oaksterdam Cannabis Technical Assistance Program is a hybrid live program launched in February, delivered through self-paced educational curricula, live interactive Zoom classes, two in-person intensive workshops, and a graduation celebration mixer in May of 2024.
