Cannabis Equity Program – Entry Level Workforce Development

The Connecticut Cannabis Social Equity Council (SEC) is the first agency in the nation to implement workforce training to promote an equitable cannabis industry. The SEC is sponsoring Oaksterdam’s entry-level and management-level certification training for individuals living in a DIA

Workforce training combines education and in-person networking to empower job seekers to enter the workforce and successfully navigate career pathways. Separate entry- and management-level education tracks promote employment and help elevate workers into more senior positions supporting their careers. Workforce training efforts have the most significant impact on the communities affected by the War on Drugs.

Entry-level training is a foundational “cannabis 101” education for anyone starting their career in the industry, particularly front-line retail workers. Tailored to Connecticut laws, regulations, and supply chain considerations, completing this track results in Connecticut Responsible Vendor Training Certification.

This training program is offered online at your own pace and takes six to eight hours to complete. You will learn about:

  • Federal vs. State Laws
  • Connecticut Laws & Regulations
  • Foundations of Retail Work
  • Public Health & Hygiene
  • The Effects of Cannabis & Consumer Safety
  • Cultivar Selection
  • Products, Methods of Ingestion & Dosing
  • Customer Service

You will also have the option to join two live, interactive, Zoom classes:

  • Federal vs. State Laws
  • The Connecticut Supply Chain

Oaksterdam supports participants taking workforce training with intake guidance counseling, which is critical to individual participant success. The one-on-one interaction helps participants identify the best coursework to reduce friction and overcome barriers.
