OU Featured in Thrillist

Jan 11, 2023 | Blog, News

With adult use cannabis now legal in 21 states plus Washington, D.C., it’s high time to visit Oaksterdam University. So says an article that appeared in Thrillist on Jan. 6, 2023.

The article shares all the details on OU, from classes to price points and more.

In addition, it features two of our esteemed alumni, Tahir Johnson, who hosts the podcast the Cannabis Diversity Report and is set to open a dispensary Simply Pure Trenton in the spring, and Alphonso “Tucky” Blunt, Jr., owner of dispensary Blunts & Moore.

“I’d wanted to open my own dispensary since 1999 and I felt attending a cannabis college would help with that,” Blunt says in the article. Blunt, the first Black equity owner of a cannabis retail store opened under Oakland’s social equity program, completed OU’s horticulture and business of cannabis classes in 2007.

The story also talks about Oaksterdam’s history, starting with our roots in Oakland, Calif. with Richard Lee and Jeff Jones, all the way up to our latest achievement, the publication of our e-textbook, The Budtender’s Guide.
