OU Prof and Legend Ed Rosenthal Talks Home Cultivation & Social Equity

Oaksterdam Professor and Horticulture Legend Ed Rosenthal was profiled by Benzinga on Aug. 16, 2021.

In the article: “Exclusive: Ed Rosenthal, The ‘Ganja Guru,’ On Home Cultivation and the Cannabis Industry,” Ed talks about growing plants as way to reclaim pleasure, enjoyment, and a healthier product. He also talks about why it’s a matter of social justice.

According to the article, Rosenthal proposes more and better training of the industry’s workforce as a way to reverse social inequity:

“If they really wanted to achieve social equity in this industry, what they should be doing is funding internship programs and entrepreneurial training,” he says. “If what you really want to do is to achieve progress, to move society at large forward, what you need to do is to make the entry into the marketplace not as arduous and costly as it is now and give tools to producers to improve their business. This is a business and everyone who wants to have it should be licensed and pay taxes.”

Oaksterdam University and our faculty promote education as the path to equitable ownership and employment opportunities in the cannabis industry. Learn more about our involvement with Social Equity Programs and find out how we may be able to help you secure financial aid here.
